Sally Harrison INTRODUCTION

I would like to introduce to you Sally Harrison. Sally was born in 1949 on Australia Day. Her mother was only 16 when Sally was born. At the age of 4 months Sally had a very bad cold and a policeman came and took them away to a mission centre in Albury N.S.W. On this day the policemen called her a piccaninni meaning aboriginal child and her mother took this as an offence. Later when Sally was 13 months she became part of the stolen generation. At the age of 3 she was trained to become a servant in the white people's houses. Her earliest memory of her life was when she could remember the warm morning sun on her skin. She was taken to La Perouse in Sydney and then a Mission Home. She didn't realise it would be 43 years until she and her mother reunited again. So here Sally Harrison will talk about her exhibition here at St. Hilda's School. Thank you. As you know i am Sally and we are here today at my exhibition.
